Aabid Hussain Nengroo Booked Over Alleged ₹8.25 Lakh Fraud

Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir: A case has been registered against BJP political leader Aabid Hussain Nengroo in Anantnag following a complaint alleging that ₹8.25 lakh was taken on the promise of arranging a government job and permission to set up tents during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra in Pahalgam.

According to the complaint, the money was allegedly paid after Nengroo claimed he could help secure a Special Police Officer (SPO) position in the Police Department. The complainant also alleged that Nengroo promised to facilitate permission for setting up tents for pilgrims at Pahalgam during the annual pilgrimage.

Police have registered FIR No. 283/2026 at Police Station Anantnag under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. An investigation is now underway to establish the facts and examine the allegations.

The case comes against the backdrop of a dispute over tent permissions during the Amarnath Yatra. Nengroo has denied the allegations and reportedly termed them baseless.

For now, the matter remains under investigation. The filing of an FIR is not proof of wrongdoing, and any allegations against Nengroo will have to be established through the legal process.

Investigators are expected to look into the alleged financial transactions, communications between the parties and other evidence that may shed light on what happened.
